In the heart of the traditional Carmarthenshire market town of Llandovery (Llanymddyfri in Welsh - meaning "Church amidst the waters"), It is on the confluence of the rivers Towy (Tywi), Bran, Gwydderig and Bawddwr.

On the main A40, it is in a central point connecting with the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Cambrian Mountains and the Garden of Wales, Carmarthenshire. It is on the Heart of Wales Railway line and is a natural place to stop if travelling from the East towards the Cardiganishire and Pembrokeshire coasts.
